The governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has officially concluded with Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji emerging victorious in a sweeping and widely anticipated triumph across the state.

The final result, announced on Monday, May 25, 2026, by the PDP Returning Officer for the election, Hon. Augustine Nwachukwu, showed that Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji secured a commanding total of 7,424 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Samson Chukwu Nnamani (Odera), who polled 600 votes.

The outcome officially confirms earlier indications and political projections which had consistently placed Chief Nnaji far ahead in the contest as results emerged from the 260 political wards across Enugu State.

Recall that even before the final statewide collation was concluded, reports from various wards and delegate blocs had suggested a massive lead in favour of Chief Nnaji, with widespread speculation pointing to an overwhelming endorsement by party stakeholders and delegates.

In his home base, Akpugo Ward 3 in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Chief Nnaji had earlier recorded an unopposed victory at the primary held at Ogbashi Village Square, a development many political observers described as a symbolic demonstration of his deep-rooted grassroots acceptance and dominance within the party structure.

As collation progressed across the state, unofficial figures and ward-level intelligence consistently showed him maintaining a comfortable lead, with analysts predicting the eventual landslide now confirmed by the party’s electoral committee.

Speaking shortly after the declaration of results, supporters of the PDP candidate erupted in celebration across several parts of the state, describing the outcome as a reflection of the confidence reposed in Chief Nnaji’s leadership capacity, political experience, and vision for Enugu State.

Political stakeholders within the party have also noted that the scale of the victory signals a strong consolidation of support ahead of the governorship election, especially considering the margin recorded across the various delegate centres statewide.

Chief Nnaji, while appreciating delegates, party leaders, and supporters for the overwhelming mandate, reiterated his commitment to party unity, inclusive governance, grassroots development, youth empowerment, and the continued advancement of Enugu State.


The PDP primary election, which witnessed high participation from delegates and stakeholders across the state, was largely described by party officials as peaceful, orderly, and transparent.


With the conclusion of the primary, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji now officially flies the flag of the PDP as the party’s governorship candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Enugu State.
